Eternal Word

John opens his Gospel by revealing that Jesus (the Word, Greek: Logos) is eternal, personal, and divine. He was already there “in the beginning,” distinct in relationship yet fully God. This verse anchors Christian faith: Christ is not a created helper or merely a wise teacher; He is God Himself who speaks creation into being and later steps into history to redeem it. Because the Word is eternal and unchanging, His promises and purposes are dependable in every season.

Life changes quickly—jobs shift, relationships evolve, health rises and dips. John 1:1 lifts our eyes above the swirl to the One who never began and will never end. Jesus, the eternal Word, stands before all time and speaks meaning into our moments. When we feel scattered, it is often because we let changing inputs define us—feedback, numbers, headlines, moods. The Gospel invites us to let Jesus define us. His voice created light; His cross declares love; His resurrection guarantees hope. Practically, begin today by letting the first and final word over your life be His. Pause and say, “Jesus, You are the Word over my week, my work, my worries.” Then act from that assurance: - When you plan, ask, “What aligns with the Word’s character—truth, grace, and courage?” - When anxiety whispers, answer with His constancy: He was, He is, He will be. - When decisions loom, measure options not just by outcomes but by obedience. The eternal Word is not distant. He is present, speaking through Scripture, guiding by His Spirit, and sustaining you moment by moment. Rooted in who He is, you can move through change without being changed by it in the wrong ways. Let His permanence become your peace.
